Redline Coach Tour 1969
by: Anonymous

This tour went from Sydney via Mount Isa, Katherine and Darwin, Alice Springs, Ayers Rock, Coober |Pedy, Adelaide (for new coach as old one wrecked), Canberra and Sydney - all in 22 days. The experience was out of this world. 30 young adults all bogged down on the way to Ayer's Rock - digging for 24 hours and a night drive to make up time afterwards, taking turns to prick our fantastic driver with a pin when we caught him falling asleep at the wheel. It was rough. It was tough. It was crazy and dangerous and exciting - imagine setting off with coaches that were in poor condition and a drive determined we would see al the sights. It was inthe 90's F and we slept out of doors on rubber mattresses, never mind ants, scorpions, snakes. Yes, you climbed the Rock without a thought then. Lofty was a character who told us the history because he had chosen to live there most of his life... anyone remember Redline and Pioneer coach tours in the 60's? They would be banned now!
