Kakadu, Litchfield or both?

by Amanda
(Reading, UK)

We are travelling around Australia for our honeymoon in May next year and we are staying overnight in Darwin on 16th May. We then have two free nights before heading back there and staying overnight and catching the Ghan.

Wondered as we only have two nights and the to and from Darwin travel if we should concentrate on Kakadu, go to Litchfield or try and do both?

Kakadu or Litchfield

Hi Amanda. To do both Kakadu and Litchfied is out of the question. You'd only drive and see nothing.

Whether you go to Kakadu or Litchfield is your decision. If you do like camping, walking and exploring then I'd recommend Litchfield. There is a lot you can do there.

But if you need accommodation as well, rather drive around and look at things and prefer very short and easy walks, and if you'd rather see some culture and rock art than do any serious walking, then maybe Kakadu is better for you.

Of course Kakadu also has a lot of great walks to offer, but because the park is so big you won't have much time for those if you only have two nights.

If you only have two free nights you are not going to have time for Kakadu - it takes a good day's drive from Darwin to enter the park. Don't underestimate the distances to travel in Oz.

Plenty of lovely places to see in Litchfield.
